Omani Families Caring for a Member with Mental Illness: A Descriptive Qualitative Study

The aim of this qualitative descriptive study was to gain an in depth understanding and knowledge regarding how Omani families care for a member with mental illness including they supported the later self-care activities. Data collected from participants using purposive sample consisting ten family caregivers whose Sultan Qaboos University Hospital Muscat. Each caregiver participated one semi-structured interview. interviews were analyzed content analysis. findings included two major themes: first theme “caring empowering empathy, love, understanding.” second “self-denial giving without limitations.” In conclusion, mentally ill provided optimum level help empower their members manage illness. However, so doing, those denied neglected themselves taking members. Several appropriate clinical interventions policies are needed support caregivers, create situation recently referred as becoming “care partners.”
